Petersham Park Oval holds a special place in world cricket history.

The world’s best batsman of all time Sir Donald Bradman, scored his maiden first grade century at Petersham Park in 1926 at the age of 18.

It was Bradman’s debut in Sydney grade cricket and the first time the cricketing world saw what he was capable of. In this match ‘The Don’ scored 110 runs at Petersham Park and even had bowling figures of three wickets for 26 runs, as a handy part-time leg-spinner.

Bradman went on to score 29 centuries for Australia at an average of 99.94 runs per innings, a record which is unlikely to be matched.

While Bradman stands alone as cricket royalty, Orrcon Steel and Bluedog Fences teamed up in a partnership to restore the fencing at Petersham Park Oval.

This Aussie made project turned a dilapidated timber fence at Petersham Park Oval into a pristine steel fence. This was accomplished while maintaining the traditional look and feel of the original Petersham Park fence that dated back to Bradman’s early years.

Bluedog Fences are a regional manufacturer and installer of steel picket fencing.

Using BlueScope pre-galvanised GalvaBond®, Orrcon produced the steel tube which was then powder coated by Bluedog and turned into picket fencing and gates.

“Thanks to this partnership, we are confident the next Don Bradman can smash bowlers to the fence at Petersham Park Oval and Orrcon’s quality steel will stand the test of time” said Lester Kirkwood National Sales and Marketing Manager for Orrcon Steel.

Bluedog Fences Production Manager Don Thompson said,“Bluedog Fences and Orrcon Steel have always set the benchmark for quality and reliability of delivery,” he said.

Bluedog Fences Project Manager Andrew Holmes said, “the fencing provides an important function and enhances the aesthetic value of the open space. With Orrcon’s product we know it is going to stand up to the tough conditions.”
