Leading steel, tube and pipe distributor and manufacturer Orrcon Steel has demonstrated its faith in the economy and branched out into
four key Queensland regions following the recent purchase of local steel products supplier, The Steel Barn.

The purchase, which involves distribution outlets in Bundaberg, Townsville, Cairns and Mareeba, will see the long-established stores back in Queensland hands after being owned by Melbourne-based GAMSteel since 2007.

Orrcon Steel Managing Director, Leon Andrewartha, said the company has a strong focus on expanding their sales distribution network into high growth regional areas, and the purchase of Steel Barn with three branches in North Queensland and one in the WideBay/Burnett area, presented an excellent opportunity to strengthen its position in these regions.

“We see growth in the northern building and construction industry so it’s a sign of our faith in the strength of this region that we decided to have a business presence here,” Mr Andrewartha said.

“The local community will certainly benefit from this deal as The Steel Barn will be able to tap into Orrcon Steel’s manufacturing capabilities and established distribution networks and therefore provide a broad range of quality Australian made products.” Mr Andrewartha said.

Orrcon Steel felt confident the purchase would position Orrcon Steel as a key provider of steel in the Queensland regional market and further illustrate its commitment to Queensland.

“Orrcon Steel offers a wide range of steel products suitable for the DIY/Home Improvement market and with the speciality cut to length service offered by Steel Barn that is good for the local DIY steel user. With the addition of roofing and guttering products, we have an opportunity to grow our share of the DIY/Home Improvement business in these areas” Mr Leon Andrewartha said.

Leading Steel Distributor Invests in Regional Queensland Steel Barn has been a preferred stockist of Orrcon Steel for a number of years, providing regional Queensland customers with a wide range of steel products.

“The branches are well established with experienced staff providing outstanding service to local steel users and this will continue under our ownership,” he said.

“The opportunity to provide an expanded range of quality Australianmade tubular products from our own mills will add strength to this local business which is a very positive outcome for the local community.”

Orrcon Steel is a proud sponsor of Ford Performance Racing Team in the Australian V8 Supercars Series.  The Orrcon Steel/FPR Racing team
will be heading north soon for the V8 supercars round in Townsville.
